Daily life in Mae La and Umpiem Mai Burmese refugee camps as captured by the Canon 5D.

In May of 2006I had the good fortune to visit two of the refugee camps along the Thai / Burma border. At that time I was making the home page for one of the non-governmental organizations that provides services to the refugees, please see TBBC.org for much more on the Burmese refugee situation.

TBBC works closely with the refugee community and constantly strives to be sensitive to their needs. I've tried to reflect that sensitivity in these pictures. Every adult pictured here agreed to be photographed. Actually I found that everyone was extremely happy to be photographed.

The first 21 pictures are from Mae La camp; the rest are from Umpiem Mai. Both camps are more than an hour's drive from the Thai city of Mae Sot.

The pictures below will open nicely in your web browser. They are also available at magazine quality resolution.
