We met only a few women in robes. This lady lived in a small monastery in a village we stopped in on our way to Saga. She is holding a small prayer wheel in her hand. I had wondered if these were sacred property, kind of like Eric Clapton and his guitars. But when I asked to take one for a spin the owner was most happy to let me generate a few prayers with it. I was surprised at how heavy it was and how much effort it took to actually generate prayers by spinning the top around. Men and women can be seen carrying these down the streets of Tibetan cities. Behind her is a pool table. No village in Western Tibet is too small not to have a pool table. |
