Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta,

        I first became interested in visiting Vietnam in the 1960s when I used to see pictures of Saigon, now officially called Ho Chi Minh City, on the television news almost every night. In the 1980s I worked with Vietnamese refugees in the refugee camps in the Philippines and Thailand. And then finally, in late 2002, I was able to visit Vietnam. I liked it very much.
