Mt Everest / 006 The Everest based camp was a three-hour drive from Tingri. On the way, as often was the case in Tibet, the scenerey was breath taking. The Chinese are in the process of upgrading the 130-km (66-mile) dirt road with the idea of creating the highest paved road on the planet.
